Multi-Week Seminars

Overview

Through its Financial Literacy Partnership Project, FLF teams up with training programs to offer financial management seminars as part of overall life skills education.  Financial education teaches young adults how to manage their money and make wise financial decisions.  Many young adults develop staggering debt while still in their teens and spend years digging themselves out.  High debt ratios have a devastating effect on credit scores, which then impact their ability to obtain loans for homeownership or to buy a car.  In addition to obtaining preferential interest rates, good credit is essential as more businesses require credit checks as a condition of employment.  FLF helps students obtain credit reports, develop personal budgets, and open savings and checking accounts.  By teaching financial skills in conjunction with career training, students are better prepared to achieve success.

Seminar Scheduling

FLF is committed to working with community partners to help young adults improve their financial situations through multi-week seminars and one-on-one counseling.  Most seminars are held once or twice a week and last for several months; however, FLF recognizes that training programs have specific objectives and adjusts the course to meet the unique needs of the students.

Cost

Although FLF raises the majority of its funding through grant writing, it relies on its partners to help offset costs for instruction and supplies.  Despite FLF’s need to help cover its costs, FLF strongly believes in its mission and works with organizations to develop a reasonable cost structure.
