Mr. Montross joined FLF in summer of 2008 after volunteering with Educated Consumer Project in the spring. He studied finance and information systems at George Washington University and is working towards a Masters in Information Systems Development in 2009. He is an advocate of the use of technology to enhance business, and teaches the students the use of Excel and Powerpoint for their own class presentations. In his Financial Literacy course, Mr. Montross has issued the students points for completing assignments, and uses hands on activities where students bid on prizes at different price levels. The students then see for themselves how a market works and can view their own changes in consumption based on price. Students have learned to import financial statements into excel for easier analysis as well as view the long term trends of the stock market, bond markets, and government treasury bill returns. The students also have done a project where they are able to form a business contract and then learn about all of the necessary tax forms used for small business. Mr. Montross also works with FLF to develop the Web System used for pre and post testing of students, and the expansion of technology to further the mission of FLF.
